Cheers to Marty Feldman

This is my latest attempt for my creative writing class. I chose to write a Spenserian sonnet about my thyroid-- I mean, what else?

No school, no life, just wasting time, but not
On purpose—no. How many times has this
episode played? The days blur. Did I miss
class again? A test? Oh well… I’d have thought
Myself to be more careful. Where’s my head?
Can’t focus—my eyes are affected—I
Know it’s not what you think. Discouraged by
Unhelpful doctors, I climb back in bed.
I’m nocturnal now. Emotions are prone
To extremes. Can you blame me? One listened.
Labs proved his inkling. Though I am frightened,
To know the throat-lodged butterfly alone
Is the culprit makes me oddly heartened—
It may be Grave, but better than Unknown.

I hope you get notified of new comments, or it's unlikely that you'll hear my (mildly) funny and (definitely) random story.

OK, I don't need to babble here: I was somewhere today where Young Frankenstein was on TV and somebody was asking about "that Igor actor," and I informed them that his name was Marty Feldman. Then I (felt I) had to explain that the only reason I knew that was because of this impressive writer in my one creative writing class wrote a poem called "Cheers to Marty Feldman," which was about her diagnosis with Grave's Disease (which my brother-in-law, who happened to be in the room, also has), etc., etc.

Well, I got to thinking about how great everything was that you wrote for that class, so I typed in your (fortunately quite memorable) title, and this came up. (I have to admit, I had two main reasons for checking: to see if you were all published and famous yet and to see if anybody else in the world had assembled those words into that improbable phrase.) I haven't delved into all your posts (on all your blogs), but I was so excited to see that you got married, and that you got a job, and that you're a busy actor, and everything else.

Anyway, I don't expect you to remember me or anything I wrote for class, but I'd love to hear how school went for you and all that. Also, maybe you already know, but our writing class's TA is a fine writer herself and has a great blog at emiliadelmar.com. And to continue the randomness, I wanted to mention that my wife also has thyroid issues (but hypo, unlike her brother), so if you ever want commiseration on that front, I may be your guy.

Just wanted to let you know that you're cool.
